GRA Announces New Tax Relief for All Public Sector Works:Check Here for Amounts and Categories
A lot of public sector workers are eligible for the relief but do not know how to apply for this great opportunity, yes you can apply each year because you’re a tax payer. This post gives you a summary of the various types of tax relief that are available to you and gives you in-depth knowledge on how to easily apply for and benefit from it.

Tax relief Benefit is a sum of money granted to a resident in order to lessen their tax liability. Any resident may submit an application in the required format to the Commissioner-General and based on the information you provided in your application form, the relief is granted to you.
Any office nationwide of the GRA’s Domestic Tax Revenue Division will have the relief form available and you can also download it here.
Types of Reliefs for Public Sector Workers
1. Old Age Relief
Senior Citizen are always eligible for a relief, This relief is awarded to those 60 years of age and beyond.
Total Sum: GH¢1,500 annually
2. Aged Dependent Relative Relief
Is granted to a citizen who looks after a relative who is sixty(60) years of age or above. This is limited to only two family members at most. A dependent’s spouse or kid is not eligible for this relief, and only one person may claim this benefit on behalf of the same relative.
Total Amount: GH¢1,000 annually
3. Education Relief
Is granted to a resident who is enrolled in training to upgrade their knowledge or abilities in a professional, technical, or vocational capacity.
Total Amount: GH¢2,000 per annual
4. Mortgage Relief
Relying on the amount of qualified mortgage interest paid for your primary private residence during a specific tax year. This tax relief can be enjoyed for only one building.
5. Relief from Marriage and Responsibilities
A resident who looks after their spouse or at least two children is eligible for this relief. Amount: GH₵1,200 annually
6. Child Education Relief
Is a relief for Child Education given to a person who pays their child’s tuition. It is applicable to a maximum of three children, who are enrolled in any accredited and officially recognised school in Ghana. Adopted children and wards are included in this. For the same child or children, neither parent may receive this relief.
Total Amount: GH¢600 year for each child
7. Disability Tax relief
Is awarded to any individuals who satisfy the Commissioner-General with their proof of disability. This rebate is only available for business or employment-related income.
Total Amount: 25% of the disabled individual’s earnings from job or business
