In November 2021 teachers across the country were deducted monies from their monthly salary. The deduction was intended to be used to purchase computers for all of the Ghana Education Services instructors, including those on study leaves at the various universities across the country.

Although having a laptop is helpful for instructors in carrying out their tasks, it is vital to note that the deductions were made without proper consideration.

The Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Teacher Unions, the Republic of Ghana’s government, and KA Technology, the company that makes the aforementioned computers, are the main players in this initiative.

Strike Action Called Off By Labour Unions; Public Sector To Resume Work Tomorrow

The labour unions of Ghana are very grateful to public sector workers for your continued support.

Leadership wishes to appreciate your firm solidarity in this struggle.

On Friday, 12th July, 2024, Organised Labour called on all workers to join an indefinite strike action starting from today, Monday, 15th July, 2024 to back its demand for the termination of the process towards the sale of 60% of SSNIT’S shares in the four hotels.

Strike Action Called Off By Labour Unions; Public Sector To Resume Work Tomorrow

In a letter dated 12th July, 2024 (Ref: BC/12/07/2024) SSNIT informed Organised Labour that it has terminated the sale of 60% of its stake in the hotels.

At an emergency meeting held today, Monday, 15th July, 2024, Organised Labour has decided to call off the strike. All workers are requested to resume work on Tuesday, 16th July, 2024.

We are giving SSNIT one month to engage Organised Labour to address all outstanding issues related to the management of our pensions otherwise we advise ourselves.

We thank all the working people of Ghana and all Organised Labour groups for their support.

PRESS STATEMENT ON PROPOSED SALE OF 60% OF SSNIT’S SHARES IN THE FOUR HOTELS

We have followed the developments on the proposed sale of 60% of SSNIT’s stake in four hotels with very keen interest, especially after Organised Labour leadership meeting with the President of the Republic on this matter which took place on 25th June, 2024 at the Jubilee House.

Yesterday, 11th July, 2024, the Honourable Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, who is also responsible for pensions, made a statement in Parliament that NPRA has approved the sale of 60% of SSNIT’s shares in the hotels.

We recall that on 28th June, 2024 the Board of NPRA issued a directive to SSNIT to suspend the negotiation with Rock City Hotel Ltd. We, therefore, find it extremely difficult to understand how and why NPRA would turn around to approve such a flawed deal two weeks after the directive.

Organised Labour would like to reiterate its well-known position that the proposed sale of SSNIT’s shares in the four hotels is not in the best interest of Ghanaian workers.

We, therefore, demand that SSNIT terminates the process immediately.

From Monday, 15th July, 2024 all workers in Ghana must not go to work until SSNIT publicly announces the termination of the process for the sale of its shares in the hotels.
