GRNMA: Updates on Nurses & Midwives Holding Certificate and Diploma
The Ghana Registered Nurse’s and Midwives Association, GRNMA’s General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum is requesting that nursing education leading to certificates and diplomas be discontinued.
To improve nursing education and training in the nation, the Ghana Registered Nurse’s and Midwives Association, GRNMA has demanded the abolition of certificate and diploma nursing curricula.

Dr. Tenkorang said in an interview with JoyNews on Wednesday that it was confusing to have three distinct entrance requirements for the nursing and midwifery fields.
Regarding the fate of current diploma and certificate holders, he stated that in the event that the diploma and certificate programmes are terminated, current nurses holding those credentials can advance their careers by enrolling in degree programmes that are now being offered.

He went on, “Existing nurses are professional nurses; to improve the quality of their services, their qualifications must be enhanced.”
He declared, “Ghana needs to train nurses and midwives at the degree level and cancel certificate and diploma programmes to increase the bar for professional qualifications because it has the educational institutions and means to do so”.
