GRNMA Calls for Cancellation of All Certificate and Diploma Courses In Nursing Training Colleges
The Ghana Registered Nurse’s and Midwives Association, GRNMA is requesting that nursing education leading to certificates and diplomas be discontinued.

To improve nursing education and training in the nation, the Ghana Registered Nurse’s and Midwives Association, GRNMA has demanded the abolition of certificate and diploma nursing curricula.

Three distinct routes into the nursing field, according to Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, GRNMA General Secretary is strange. In order to improve nursing’s service delivery, he has also advocated for raising the bar for all nursing programmes to the degree level.
The statement was made by Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of GRNMA stated that the current system is strange and falls short of addressing the problems facing the nation’s healthcare industry.
Dr. Tenkorang said in an interview with JoyNews on Wednesday that it was confusing to have three distinct entrance requirements for the nursing and midwifery fields.

According to him, as a result of the circumstances, the health sector employs an excessive number of auxiliary nurses—roughly 60% of the workforce. He thinks the ratio needs to be changed such that the majority of nurses are degree-prepared.
He declared, “We need to train nurses and midwives at the degree level and cancel certificate and diploma programmes.”

According to Dr. Tenkorang, Ghana must increase the bar for professional qualifications because it has the educational institutions and means to do so.
He thinks that providing all nurses with a certain level of preparation can greatly enhance indicators connected to maternal health and other health-related issues.
