Concerns that they should reduce the fees that passengers pay for transport have been met with a shrug from the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU). We Will Not Reduce Transport Fares Although Fuel Price Is Low Now

On Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer of GPRTU, Abass Moro, indicated on the Ghana Kasa show that aired on Kasapa 102.5FM and Agoo TV that the recent tiny percentage reduction in the cost of petrol does not attract a decline in transport rates for the time being because prices of vehicle replacement parts are continuing to increase.
On the other hand, he continued by stating that in the event that there was an increase in the cost of gasoline, the transport union would hike the prices of the transport rates. We Will Not Reduce Transport Fares Although Fuel Price Is Low Now
Abass Moro has stated that the GPRTU won’t even consider cutting transportation fees until a litre of fuel costs GHC10.00. This is the criterion that has been established. The GPRTU statement included an explanation of this point.
“Any member of the public who, in light of the recent drop in the price of fuel, believes that there will be a corresponding fall in the cost of using public transport should forget about that idea for the time being. Instead, the general population ought to make a plea to the government to lower the price of fuel to GHC10.00 per litre, which will at least be reasonable. When it is finished, there will be a certain reduction in the fares for the various forms of transportation.
Recently, the Association of Passengers in Ghana (APG) issued a call to the mother association of driver unions, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and the Ministry of Transport (MoT) to immediately review and adjust transport fares in a downward direction to reflect the current market prices of gasoline and diesel. This call was made by the APG. Despite the current low cost of fuel.
After recent decreases in the price of petrol and diesel fuel, the group came to the conclusion that they needed to make this decision. On the other hand, these price decreases did not result in commensurate reductions in the fares that were charged by public transit. We Will Not Reduce Transport Fares Although Fuel Price Is Low Now
